Brother Dear Response - Character - Greg
In the story Brother Dear, I can connect to Greg for a few reasons. First of all, Greg has problems with his parents frequently when he is in university. Now, I don't have very many problems at all with my parents, but it happens sometimes and i can understand how Greg feels. Second of all, it can't be any fun for Greg knowing he has to tell his parents something they won't like: that he's dropping out of university. A similar experience happened with me recently, when I lost my wallet. I knew my parents would not be happy with me because there were some important things in there. It took me awhile to muster up the courage to tell my parents, just like how Greg was reluctant to tell his father that he'd dropped out of university because he knew the new would not be well received. Last of all, Greg wanted to do what he wanted to do, not what his parents chose for him. In his case, university was not something of a priority and he dropped out so he could take part in tree planting with Greenpeace. There are times with my parents as well when I feel I should do what I want, not what they want, but I know they just want the best for me and I respect that. All in all, Greg and I have similarities and differences between ourselves, but Greg had more problems.
